atomic layer deposition, scalable production of nanostructured catalysts

Job description

In this project you will take on the exciting challenge of developing novel photocatalytic materials for the production of hydrogen from water using a rational design approach. This position is part of a larger European project: other partners will take care of first-principle simulations to support the catalyst design and large-scale testing of the catalyst. You will be responsible for the synthesis of the nanostructured materials via atomic layer deposition (ALD) in our unique setups, and for the structural and performance characterisation of these materials. An intensive collaboration with the other European partners is a key aspect of this project.

Specifications

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft)

Requirements

We are looking for a prospective post-doctoral researcher with outstanding experimental skills, who is keen to head a chemical/materials engineering project on understanding how ALD can be used for the scalable production of nanostructured catalysts. As a post-doctoral researcher on this project, you will be responsible for planning and carrying out the experiments and for analysing the obtained materials. We also expect you to actively communicate and collaborate with other members of our research group, as well as with the other European partners. A firm background in atomic layer deposition (or a related field) is important, as is a good command of spoken and written English.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount for health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged. An International Children’s Centre offers child care and an international primary school. Dual Career Services offers support to accompanying partners. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

Department

Applied Sciences

The Department of Chemical Engineering promotes the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge in chemical engineering, with a focus on materials for energy and health applications. We aspire to improve the quality of life in a sustainable society through discovery and innovation, the quality of life of our graduates through inspiration and teaching, and the quality of life of our peers through collaboration and exchange. With a proud heritage in chemical engineering, the department seeks to break new ground in areas where molecular understanding and engineering design meet.

The research group Product and Process Engineering (PPE) is part of the Department of Chemical Engineering. PPE views chemical engineering as an expanding field full of opportunities to create devices, processes, and products. With expertise in reaction engineering, fluid mechanics, and transport phenomena, we create solutions for soft-matter, nanotechnology, energy and lab-on-chip applications, often together with other groups. An important research focus of this group is the scalable production of nanostructured products, using techniques such as atomic and molecular layer deposition.
