The Water Management chair group is looking for a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Water Resources Management (m/f) – 0.84 fte at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education

Job description

As part of the Integrated Water Systems and Governance Department, the Water Management chair group offers postgraduate education and professional training courses, initiates and conducts research activities, and provides capacity building and advisory services in the fields of water resources management, water accounting, water services management and environmental planning. The chair group aims to contribute to the sustainable use of water systems and acknowledges that the most pressing challenges concern issues that encompass physical and non-physical aspects simultaneously. Innovations will have to deal with the two-way dynamic of such challenges. Research is therefore focused on the interplay between the physical, technological, social, institutional and economic aspects of water systems.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate develops and applies theories and methods for water resources management in support of planning processes and operational management of water systems in a variety of contexts in particular the Global South, at various management levels and at different spatial scales. He or she is competent in quantitative approaches that can incorporate technical, economic, social and institutional aspects, and has experience in operational water management. The successful candidate is eager to collaborate with colleagues in multidisciplinary teams, and is able to critically reflect on the contribution his/her own discipline can make. He or she is interested to develop and apply quantitative water resources models, planning tools and/or role plays in teaching, research and capacity building activities. Knowledge of groundwater-surface water interactions, hydro-economic models and/or water allocation is an advantage.

The successful candidate will teach in his/her area of expertise at post-graduate level and will supervise MSc, PhD and Post-Doc fellows. He or she will also initiate, develop, acquire and implement research and capacity building projects in the field of water resources management and is prepared to carry out short-term missions abroad.

Requirements

The successful candidate:

  • has a PhD degree in water resources management or a closely related field, and a research record in this field, which is reflected in scientific publications commensurate with the position being sought;
  • has experience with quantitative approaches in operational water management
  • has a record of working in multi-disciplinary research projects;
  • brings a professional network in the field of water resources management;
  • has teaching experience at (post-)graduate level and good didactical skills;
  • has proven experience in acquiring projects;
  • is a team player with leadership skills;
  • is fluent in English, and preferably also in French and/or Spanish;
  • is motivated to work in a multi-cultural academic environment;
  • has demonstrable professional affinity with the Global South.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

This is position is in principal permanent. The first contract will be offered for one year. The position is based in Delft, The Netherlands. A competitive salary is offered depending on qualifications and experience in accordance with the conditions of employment for Dutch Universities. The appointment implies entry into the Netherlands' Civil Service Pension Fund (ABP).
