This is a tenure-track position at the Assistant (or Associate) Professor level. The Flight Performance and Propulsion section has strengths and interests across the full spectrum of aircraft design and analysis, and excellent candidates with expertise in this area are sought. Although, all areas of aircraft design, flight mechanics, and propulsion integration will be considered, the research of the candidate will be focused on external flow aerodynamics related, to conventional and unconventional aircraft configurations, high lift systems and the airframe integration with propulsion systems (propeller and novel concepts included).
The approach is to work on system (complete aircraft) and subsystem design and analysis, including aero-structural models, in which use is made of state-of-the art CFD and experimental analysis. This work will be supported by other staff member's activities in multidisciplinary analysis and design and optimisation (MDAO).
Additionally, the candidate is expected to have experience with applied aerodynamics and experimental research, in order to contribute to the activities currently performed in the Faculty of Aerospace wind tunnels, on special topics like propulsion integration (e.g. open rotors and boundary layer ingestion). Recently, work has been initiated in the field of scaled flight testing, in which the flight mechanical behaviour of unconventional designs plays an important role in the development process of future aircraft. To this purpose the ability and interest to combine theoretical and numerical simulation work with experimental and manual work in the Faculty new born Scaled Flight Lab are considered a pro. Maintaining an independent research programme in an international context and further developing a close relationship with industry is highly encouraged. The FPP section has already strong links to the aerospace industry, including Airbus and Fokker, as well as with research institutes such as NLR, DLR, ONERA and NASA. The candidate is expected to efficiently utilise these contacts to define cooperative research on the MSc and PhD levels.
Other duties include teaching undergraduate/graduate level courses and supervising MSc en PhD students. The position is available immediately. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.
A Tenure Track, a process leading up to a permanent appointment with the prospect of becoming an Associate or full Professor, offers young, talented academics a clear and attractive career path. During the Tenure Track, the candidate will have the opportunity to develop into an internationally acknowledged and recognised academic. We offer a structured career and personal development programme designed to offer individual academics as much support as possible.
