Job description

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is recruiting a full professor to lead the chair group of Food Chemistry. This position provides you with the opportunity to further develop your leadership profile and the research line of the Food Chemistry group. Together with the other senior staff, you are responsible for the academic and operational management of this Chair Group. You will define the research strategy, lead the team of scientists, lecturers and support staff, and further strengthen the prominent position. You are also responsible for teaching and innovations in BSc, MSc and PhD courses in fundamental and applied aspects of food chemistry with the objective to further improve WUR as an attractive place for students to study.

The chair group of Food Chemistry (FCH)
FCH currently consists of approximately 50 scientists, including a chair holder (vacancy), a personal professor, an endowed professor, 4 assistant and associate professors, 30 PhD students, 5 post docs and 7 technical and education assistants. The mission of the chair group is to understand the molecular basis of the properties of food components and the behaviour of foods and agricultural raw materials during industrial processing as well as during digestion in mammals. The research of the chair group deals with carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, phytochemicals and lignocellulosics present in foods, food intermediates and agricultural raw materials, thereby focusing on analysis, modification and properties of these components, preferably within complex food matrices. The scientific objectives are 1) to identify and understand the importance and (re)activity of individual components in foods and agricultural raw materials during industrial processing; 2) to selectively modify individual food components with enzymes, and/or by fermentation; 3) to unravel the mutual interactions between food components and interactions of individual food components with gastro-intestinal tract inhabitants, such as enzymes and micro-organisms, and 4) to develop analytical methods to achieve the former objectives. Your experience and contribution are expected to be synergistic with and complementary to these research topics. FCH operates in close collaboration with industry and about 60% of the project funding comes from contract research and public private partnerships.
FCH is constantly involved in adapting education to the changing needs of students and to the possibilities offered by (new) media. FCH creates a learning environment in which students feel safe and are taken seriously.
