Job description

As a specialist in scientific information, you address questions and information needs of students, researchers and teachers in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). You advise around purchase and usage of increasingly open and online available knowledge sources. Together with faculties, you contribute to creating and providing digital and non-digital skills programs for students and PhDs. You also assist in the process of searching, finding and integer usage of scientific information. You follow and share developments about publishing and working with (open and online) sources of information and you can clearly deliver and visualize a storyline.

Overview of activities:

  • Acting as liaison by building and maintaining relevant contacts and networks with FSE and the allied Brightlands campussen;
  • (Co-) develop and provide training, workshops, webinars, etc. and create and maintain online educational material in the broad field of (digital) information and research skills;

  • Provide advice and support to teachers, researchers and students in the process of searching, finding and integer using scientific information and publishing in scientifically relevant journals. In a multitude of forms of licensed content and other open and online available knowledge sources;

  • Advise on purchase / cancellation and use of (digital packages with) journals, (e-) books and databases for the collections of FASoS and FHS and initiate, communicate and cooperate changes, new releases and trials;

  • Keeping up to date of the Library Data Search Support and providing information on content and use of databases with company data, statistics and with data in the field of science and engineering like SciFinder, WRDS, FactSet etc.;

  • Contribute to and / or lead projects around innovative UB services.

Requirements

What are we looking for?

A colleague with a completed master's degree or relevant work experience in one or more disciplines of science, technology, engineering or matahematics, with experience in teaching. With insight into the broad spectrum of data usage, and -technology, smart services, artificial intelligence etc. Who speaks fluent Dutch and English and has the knowledge and the courage to use new forms of communication. A PhD is an advantage. 

In terms of personality:

You are open, make contacts easily and are eager to acquire the full spectrum of skills of a scientific information professional. You are curious and can work well together in different teams. You have analytical skills and are able to turn ideas, in understandable wording, into practice.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: one or two years, with the intention, in case of proven suitability, to convert into a permanent position.
