As a postdoctoral researcher at the departments of Vascular Surgery and Neurology of the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), you will investigate the role of small non-coding RNAs in the diagnostics and treatment of acute stroke.

Job description

You will focus on differences in non-coding RNA expression in the acute stages of hemorrhagic versus ischemic stroke. You will coordinate patient inclusions, as well as blood sample preparation and analysis. In collaboration with researchers from Delft University of Technology, you will also assess characteristics of drug-containing, RNA-inducible polymeric nanospheres and optimize their behavior under physiological conditions. In addition, you will be given the academic freedom to setup investigations into the functional role of noncoding RNAs in stroke pathology.

Requirements

You hold a PhD degree in Life Science and Technology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Medical Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biopharmaceutical Sciences or a similar field. You have good laboratory skills and a natural curiosity. You are interested in both fundamental molecular biology and clinical translational research. You also have affinity with drug application routes and a basic understanding of organic and polymer chemistry. An ability to work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues from different disciplines is essential. You have good communication skills in written and spoken English and Dutch (for patient inclusions).

Conditions of employment

You will be employed on the basis of 36 hours per week. Appointment is for two years. Your salary is based on your education and experience and is a maximum of  € 4,321  gross per month for a full time position (scale 10 in the Collective Labour Agreement forUniversity Hospitals).

This project is part of a larger collaboration between the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam (AMC) and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft).
