Job description

Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) is a unique concept in the Netherlands. At three different locations (TU Eindhoven, Tilburg University and Mariënburg Campus Den Bosch) Data Science can be studied, researched and applied through bachelor and graduate programs, Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) education, Data Science Centers and incorporated into existing ecosystems.

You will be working on the Mariënburg campus in a multidisciplinary team with engineers, statisticians, artificial intelligence experts and entrepreneurship scholars. Mariënburg campus is a Graduate School providing educational and research programs on the intersection of data science and entrepreneurship for master, PDEng, PhD and executive-level participants The Graduate School is growing rapidly and consists currently of about 30 fte faculty and 20 fte PhD's. The School's research, educational and valorization program focuses on digitization in different types of organizations. JADS has dedicated support staff to help create and nurture company-driven research and teaching, thereby fueling opportunities to do high quality research that matters in the real world.Job descriptionThe Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) invites suitable candidates to apply for the available tenure track position. Candidates are expected to participate in the JADS group's research, educational and valorization program focusing on understanding and improving entrepreneurship in the Digital Age. The position involves a balanced teaching and research load. The appointment involves a five-year tenure-track position as an assistant professor with a clear development route towards the position of associate professor.

If the candidate however, due to performance, is eligible to be promoted to associate professor earlier within the five year track, this is feasible.

A successful candidate combines an entrepreneurship and management perspective on conducting top-level academic research with a focus on new digital technologies. You publish your research in high-quality scholarly journals and, as such, contribute to JADS's research on the crossroads between data science and entrepreneurship. Possible focal research topics include, but are not limited to disruption, technology commercialization and new venturing, ecosystems, business model innovation, and entrepreneurial decision-making. On the methods side, we expect you to build upon the recent developments in data science such as non-intrusive data collection, social signal processing, and neural networks to name a few. Part of this expertise is already embedded in JADS. You will also teach courses on entrepreneurship and innovation at the Bachelor and/or Master level, and be involved in supervision tasks (at the PhD, MSc, and BSc level). In addition, you are required to acquire external research funding from industry in our high-tech region or from organizations like NWO, and be active and visible in international academic networks.

Requirements

A successful candidate:
  • Has a Master degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence or a similar field of study and a relevant PhD degree in innovation management or entrepreneurship (or vice versa).
  • Has a drive to conduct excellent research and engage in top-level teaching.
  • Has already published in leading academic journals in AI, Entrepreneurship and/or Management.
  • Has relevant teaching experience at the Bachelor and/or Master level and is willing to obtain the University Teaching Qualification.
  • Has expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods and techniques to study entrepreneurial and innovation phenomena.
  • Is able and willing to work in a multidisciplinary context within a technical university.

  • Furthermore a successful candidate:
  • Is a team player.
  • Is prepared to play an active citizenship role within the JADS group and the department.
  • Is able to cross the bridge between engineering and social sciences.
  • Is fluent in English.
  • Is able to join the JADS group in the spring of 2019 at the latest.

    We offer you:
  • A challenging job in a dynamic and ambitious university;
  • An employment as an Assistant Professor for a period of 5 years with possible tenure as an Associate Professor or earlier depending on performance.
  • A gross salary in the range of € 4.294- to € 5.513,-  per month (on a full-time basis), based on your background and working experience.
  • A yearly holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary
  • A yearly end year allowance of 8.3% of the yearly salary.
  • Enrolment into a program to acquire an official teaching certification from Dutch Universities (University Teaching Qualification; BKO);
  • A 40 hour working week and 41 holiday days and highly appreciated flexibility.
