Job description

The neglected tropical diseases (NTD) are a group of poverty-related diseases caused by various types of infective agents that affect over a billion people worldwide. This research position focuses on soil transmitted helminths and schistosomiasis. The research will involve working with established individual-based and deterministic models for transmission and control of NTDs as well as developing new mathematical and statistical models for the analysis of epidemiological data. The researcher is expected to publish in high impact peer-reviewed journals.

Requirements

Enthusiastic graduate with Master of Science in Epidemiology, Biology, Medicine, Mathematics, Econometrics, Biostatistics or related field with an interest in infectious disease modeling and epidemiological data analysis. The candidate should demonstrate a strong affinity for quantitative skills, including statistics (in particular Bayesian methods) and statistical programming (preferably in R). Previous experience conducting research are preferred. The candidate should have good command of the English language, both verbally and in writing (i.e. command of the Dutch language is not required).

Being able to present a certificate of good conduct, a valid proof of identity, diploma's and/ or relevant registration such as BIG/ RGS are conditions for the appointment.

Conditions of employment

The position is initially offered for two years with possibility of extension leading to a PhD, depending on positive evaluation and funding. The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 4.321,- (scale 10), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Medical Centers (CAO UMC).
