Job description

A floating lab for expeditions in extreme polar winters or a roadmap for the quantum internet. At TU Delft we continuously work on ground-breaking projects. IT has become an indispensable part of this research. That is why you, as an experienced specialist in IT innovation, support researchers, teachers and students in understanding and use of the newest technology in the best possible way. Inspired and with energy you will take on the challenge to introduce innovations in this technologically exciting and intellectually challenging environment.

This is the job

Fostering new ideas in the field of IT and introducing innovations that make a difference for researchers and students at our university. That’s what it is about for you. It might be software that allows scientists to easily manage their research data, or a new solution in which teachers can collect the homework of their students. You are the one who will discover, assess and introduce these potential IT services.

All research and each project is unique and requires specific IT solutions. It is up to you to find out what exactly is needed. For this you will proactively engage with scientists, teachers, deans, the board of the university and other stakeholders. You have a feel for the dynamics and dilemmas of a project and you know how to uncover the underlying questions and wishes. Having done that you then proceed to find out which IT solutions and technology can support the projects in the best way.

Do you see opportunities for introducing certain innovative solutions? Are you abreast of the latest trends, for example, the move towards generating open source software as output of the researcher? This is when your initiative-rich attitude will come into play. Passionately you will advise on how to translate innovations into practical applications and infrastructural projects. And full of energy you will go about gathering support and creating momentum and possibilities. You do this through a collaborative approach, bringing together colleagues with comparable problems and taking the lead in furthering a common vision.

Such a collaborative approach is a pivotal element in your work: not only to advise on a project level, but always bringing a strategic view to identify the advantages of technology for the university as a whole. For this you will engage inside and outside TU Delft with other education and research institutes such as SURF, 4TU, and other communities nationally and internationally.
