The Department of Organization Sciences (www.fsw.vu.nl/en/departments/organization-sciences) and the Department of Political Science and Public Administration (https://fsw.vu.nl/en/departments/political-science-and-public-administration) invite qualified individuals to apply for an assistant professorship position.

The position involves teaching for both departments and doing research for the department of Organization Sciences with, broadly speaking, a focus on such research areas as organizational change, collaboration/ conflict and interdependencies, new organizational forms, organizational discourse and practice, and everyday processes of organizing.

We seek an assistant professor with innovative ideas about the organization of multi-disciplinary teaching at master's and bachelor's level in the field of  organization science and public administration. At the Faculty of Social Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, we are currently engaged in a broad process of teaching innovation. This process is also important for the master's and bachelor's programmes of the departments of Organization Science and Public Administration. The assistant professor will be involved in the (joint) teaching programmes of these two departments.

Your duties

  • carry out  and lead high level research in areas that associate with organizations
  • teach and mentor students (English and Dutch) at bachelor and master levels
  • engage in managerial tasks such as coordinating our educational program.
  • write grant proposals
  • engage in institutional and professional service

Requirements

  • a Phd degree (or submitted the dissertation and about to defend it) and study in organization theory and/or public administration
  • a basic qualification in teaching for Dutch universities (BKO) or be willing to acquire this qualification after appointment

Conditions of employment

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of € 3,545.- and a maximum € 4,852.- in accordance with salary scale 11, depending on your education and experience. The job profile (universitair docent 2) is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for 1.0 FTE.
 
The initial employment contract will affect a period of 3 years. After satisfactory evaluation of the initial appointment, it can be a permanent position.

Faculty of Social Sciences

The Faculty of Social Sciences examines the major social problems of our time from multiple perspectives. From bullying at school to dealing with illegal immigration, from the rise of populist politicians to creating a self-reliant society. Only at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam you will find all the academic disciplines needed to understand these 'wicked problems': alongside the traditional disciplines such as sociology, anthropology and politics, we also research and teach the new social sciences such as communication science and management & organization science.
