Ultra-high field brain imaging (MRI)
We invite applications for a PhD position in neuroimaging at the department of Radiology of the Maastricht University Medical Centre, the Alzheimer Center Limburg, and the School for Mental Health and Neuroscience, Faculty for Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, Maastricht University.

Job description

The position is funded by Alzheimer Nederland, on the topic “Glymphatic dysfunction and cognitive impairment: a memory clinic study”. Candidates’ work aims to tailor and apply innovative MRI techniques at ultra-high field (7T) yielding metrics indicative of the glymphatic (clearance) system. Novel imaging techniques will be applied to memory clinic patients and linked to cognitive performance. The candidate will be responsible for the recruitment of subjects and the MRI measurements, hence excellent skills in Dutch are an absolute requirement. The candidate will analyze and interpret the data, disseminate the results as research articles in scientific journals, followed by writing a PhD thesis

Requirements

You are a highly motivated technological innovator with a team spirit. You are able to work in the interactive field of technological innovation and medicine, like complex problems, and have good skills in Dutch and English. You have excellent communicative and organization competences, and have an interest in cognitive disorders and dementia, older patients and their caregivers. A M.Sc. degree is required in (medical) physics, biomedical engineering, computer science, biomedical sciences or other related fields. Affinity with MR imaging, data acquisition, data analysis, and a strong background in computer programming (e.g. Matlab) is required.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 + 3 years.

Temporary employment for the period of max 4 years. Monthly salary is € 2.325,- gross/ month in year 1 up to € 2.972,-  in year 4.
