Job description

Project Information:  
The UNFPA-NIDI Resource Flows survey tracks global expenditures on family planning policies from donor countries to and within receiving countries, NIDI co-ordinates this international survey and maintains a database of these financial flows since 1997.

The NIDI team consists of 5 researchers who are responsible for the data collection and quality, in consultation with local consultants from the participating countries. Due to staff turnover the position of a research assistant has become available.

Tasks:
The role of the research assistant will be to assist consultants in 35 countries ( of which a number of French speaking in Sub-Saharan Africa) for data collection on family planning expenditures. The assistant will also be responsible for checking the incoming data and checking the data entered in the database. Furthermore, the research assistant will also assist in analyzing the data and writing publications based upon the data collected. 

Main tasks include:

  • To be in close contact with the UNFPA country offices and consultants within the countries and assist where necessary
  • To check incoming data and fill it in the database where necessary
  • The maintenance and fine-tuning of the Resource Flows database in PostGresSQL server and Navicat;
  • To generate queries for data consistency checks and selections of data in response to specific data requests
  • To assist in conducting analyses and writing research reports on the UNFPA-NIDI resource flows project on family planning.

Requirements

  • University degree in preferably population studies, development studies, health economics
  • Familiarity with family planning and sexual reproductive health issues in developing countries
  • Experience with databases ( PostGresSQL, MicrosoftSQL)
  • Excellent written and oral communication in French and English

 

Conditions of employment

Depending on training and work experience, the maximum gross monthly salary coming with a full-time appointment will amount to € 3,422 (scale 9), collective Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten), excluding 8% holiday pay and a 8,3% year-end-bonus.
