Job description

Research

Your research will contribute to the Faculty’s research program “Health@BMS”, with a particular focus on:

  • Development of interdisciplinary theories and methodologies to influence behaviours with a view to improve health and healthcare;
  • Development of persuasive technology to support the monitoring and coaching of implicit and explicit psychological and behavioural processes in members of the public, patients and healthcare professionals;
  • Development of innovative and engaging measurement methodology, including technology as a way of collecting, analysing and translating Big Data into personalized and motivating behavioural interventions.
  • Education in Health Psychology and Technology in the Bachelor and Master Programs;
  • Cooperation with other educational programs, like Health Sciences, Technical Medicine, as well as with the multidisciplinary High Tech, Human Touch minor module “Science to Society”;
  • Innovative teaching efforts like the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) “eHealth”.
Management
  • You will be responsible for research and education in the field of health psychology and technology, and for managing its staff;
  • You will contribute to the management of the Cluster to which the chair belongs, the interdisciplinary Faculty theme Health@BMS, and the University-wide Technical Medical Centre;
  • You will continue and expand collaboration with health institutions in the Netherlands and with international and transatlantic cooperations.
The chair in “health psychology and persuasive technology” occupies a position that is unique in this field of science. The technological embedding ought to be exploited to the full, to attract research funding as well as (inter)national students.

Requirements

You have:

  • a background in psychology and in persuasive health technology. In particular expertise is needed in methodologies to develop technology that is user-oriented and implementable in practice;
  • expertise in the use of technology to collect, analyse and translate data into self-management strategies;
  • demonstrable interest in monitoring and coaching of psychological and behavioral processes in healthcare as evidenced by international publications and networks;
  • ability and willingness to collaborate across disciplines that support the High Tech-Human Touch profile of the University of Twente and to promote collaborations with technological institutes of the University (e.g., Tech Med Centre, Digital Society Institute);
  • proactive contribution to the BMS Health research agenda;
  • skills to lead, supervise and support PhD students and teaching and research staff;
  • ability to further develop and renew highly attractive education at the intersection of Health, Psychology and Technology;
  • ability to acquire and co-ordinate (PI) multinational research grants and projects;
  • strong interpersonal skills and capacity to connect, motivate and lead academics and departments;
  • a basic qualification in teaching for Dutch universities ('UTQ');
  • English language skills (at level C2);
  • ability to establish a lifelong learning infrastructure using new technologies (like MOOC, VR etc.);
  • academic leadership skills to chair the Health Psychology Section of the Department.

We offer a fulltime permanent position as Full Professor with a competitive salary and balanced employment conditions. The maximum salary is either €8.127 (Full Professor level 2) or €9.812 (Full Professor level 1), depending on your global academic position and experience.
