Job description

You will work in a multidisciplinary team that provides tertiary care for patients with malignant tumors of bone and soft tissues. You will operate at the interface of clinical care and research focused on further improvement of the diagnosis and treatment for these patients. Your activities will include handling and post processing of MR and PET-CT images of patients with malignant bone tumors. Furthermore, you will also be responsible for the production, monitoring and evaluation of proton treatment for these patients by collection and interpretation of clinical data and images. The activities will be carried out both in the LUMC and in HollandPTC, the recently opened institute for proton therapy, established by LUMC, Erasmus MC and TU Delft, located in Delft. This project is funded by HollandPTC and VARIAN.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual with an MSc degree in Technical Medicine, Biomedical Sciences or equivalent studies. You are interested in MR and PET-CT imaging, image analysis, image registration and radiotherapy. Experience in these fields is appreciated. You should be able to work both independently and in a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Conditions of employment

When appointed as a PhD candidate you will be appointed for four years. Appointment will end with completing a doctoral thesis. Your salary is based on the collective labor agreement of university medical centers, scale Pro.

When applying with a master’s degree in Medicine, you can also be appointed as an aio. In this scenario, appointment is for six years, in which clinical internships are a part of the appointment. Your salary is based on your education and experience and amounts to a maximum of € 3,020, gross per month based on a fulltime position (scale 10, CLA UMC).

The Department of Radiology performs research at the interface of technological innovations and healthcare. The aim is to develop imaging technologies that can be used in patients for diagnostic purposes or as instruments to increase our understanding of diseases. The clinical disciplines Radiology and Nuclear Medicine are fully integrated in the department.

The Department of Radiotherapy aims to provide optimal care for patients with cancer in combination with innovative research. The department has clinical research lines for gastro-intestinal cancer, gynecological cancer and palliative care, and also focuses on research in the field of proton therapy in close collaboration with HollandPTC.
