Job description

The Department of Intelligent Systems at Delft University of Technology is looking for an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in the field of visual computing, which can include the areas of computer graphics, computer vision, image processing, display technology, data-driven solutions, and perceptual methods. The Assistant Professor/Associate Professor will supervise PhD students, interns, and Bachelor’s and Master’s students, and will teach at the BSc and MSc levels. The appointee will also be responsible for management tasks, acquisition of research projects, and valorisation.

Requirements

The candidate we seek is a motivated and dedicated researcher. The candidate holds a PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering). Additionally, the candidate should:

  • be a team player. Experience in initiating and participating in (international) research programmes and in collaborative projects with scientific/industrial partners is an advantage.
  • be an enthusiastic teacher with the motivation to engage in the educational environment and an openness towards modern teaching methodologies.
  • preferably, have experience with different application domains and a keen eye for technical and scientific solutions.
  • have proficiency in English of at least level C1-II (a certificate is not needed).      

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Tenure.

At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. Section leader, department leaders and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively at the end of the tenure track, you will be appointed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.

Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) is known worldwide for its high academic quality and the societal relevance of its research programmes. The faculty’s excellent facilities accentuate its international position in teaching and research. Within this interdisciplinary and international setting the faculty employs over 1100 employees, including 225 permanent scientific staff and 500 PhD students. Together they work on a broad range of technical innovations in the fields of sustainable energy, telecommunications, microelectronics, embedded systems, computer and software engineering, interactive multimedia and applied mathematics. The Department of Intelligent Systems (INSY) conducts research on processing, interpretation and securing of data. Our aim is to enable man and machine to deal with the increasing volume and complexity of data and communication. We have a strong focus on security, multimedia, and health sciences. The Department pursues its mission by combining fundamental research, engineering and design approaches to model- and knowledge-based methods and algorithms. We actively seek research and technology-transfer collaboration with international scientific peers, companies, and societal organisations.

The Computer Graphics and Visualization Group (graphics.tudelft.nl) has a strong research record with expertise in visualization, modeling, game technology and visual analytics. Besides these major topics, interaction techniques, virtual/augmented reality, vision, perception, computational photography, and simulation play an important role. The group also participates strongly in Delft Data Science, the Delft Research Initiatives “Environment” and “Health” and aims to find solutions for tomorrow’s problems.
