Job description

In this position you will develop, in a team, novel CT imaging technology for (1) research to improve extraction of information from CT images, and/or (2) research to improve image-guidance for therapy. Either of the two positions may involve working with CT images of cancer patients, covid-19 patients or preclinical animal images (rodents). Artificial intelligence methods such as deep learning will be a significant part of the projects. Your role will be to develop CT image analysis software for various purposes, help develop novel CT imaging equipment, and perform experiments. There will be close collaboration with partnering companies and hospitals in the research consortium.

Requirements

We are looking for two researchers (PhD-student or post-doc level) in radiation physics, radiation engineering, biomedical engineering or imaging science. Our new team members are dynamic co-workers and preferably have a strong MSc or PhD degree with an interest in biomedical research. For the PhD-student position you should have an excellent study record with a GPA of at least 3.5/4. You should be willing to work in a highly motivated team of physicists and physicians.
Advanced computer programming skills are an absolute must. Ideally, you have knowledge of hardware system development. You should be willing to relocate to the region around Maastricht (which is also close to Germany and Belgium). Knowledge of the Dutch language is not a requirement, however you should be fluent in English (written and spoken).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

Employment conditions are based on the Dutch Collective Labor Agreement for Hospitals (CAO Ziekenhuizen). You will receive a fulltime contract (36 hours/week) for an initial period of one year, which in case of a successful evaluation may be extended to several years. As a PhD-student, your salary will be according to the salary scale FWG 50 (min. € 2,453) and as a post-doc your salary will be according to the salary scale FWG 60 (min. € 3,225, max. € 4,682, depending on your relevant work experience). Within the collective labor agreement, there is an extensive package of fringe benefits, including a 8.33% holiday allowance and 8.33% end-of-year bonus. In addition, Maastro offers various discount options with regard to (healthcare) insurance, bicycle purchase and sports subscriptions. Applicants from abroad may qualify for the advantageous 30% tax rule and a moving cost reimbursement. In case a residence/work permit is required, our HR department will assist with the application.

We work on several areas such as medical images, artificial intelligence, proton therapy and radiobiology studies. Our overall aim is to develop and translate technical research to a clinical setting.
