Job description
The Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR) is looking for two postdoc researchers who will strengthen our new research programme, What works in policing: Towards evidence-based policing in the Netherlands. This national programme has been developed in collaboration with the Dutch National Police and the Ministry of Justice and Security. This collaboration offers a unique opportunity to do rigorous policing research that contributes to strengthening evidence-based policing. 

Tasks
You get the opportunity to develop your own research line within our ‘What works in policing’ research programme and you will do empirical research in collaboration with other researchers. You are expected to conduct policing research with rigorous research designs and apply for new research grants. You publish your research in high-ranking international peer-reviewed journals, present your work at (inter)national conferences, and you are actively engaged in knowledge transfer activities with the Dutch police and other stakeholders. You will be involved in the supervision of PhD candidates.

Requirements

The new colleagues we are looking for:

  • already hold a PhD degree, or will soon defend their PhD thesis
  • have a research background in Criminology or Crime Science, Sociology, Geography, Psychology or any other related discipline
  • have a strong publication record
  • have experience in or affinity with policing research and evidence-based policing
  • have strong empirical research skills
  • have good analytical and social skills
  • have a good command of English, both spoken and written, the same in Dutch is an advantage or should be attained
  • are able to independently identify and obtain relevant research grants
  • are strong team players who are also able to supervise other researchers

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: One year.

  • You will first receive a contract at NSCR for the period of one year. If you perform well it will be extended for three extra years.
  • The salary depends on experience and is at least € 3,778 up to a maximum of € 5,196 per month on the basis of a full-time appointment (scale 11 of the collective labour agreement Research Institutions).
  • You will also receive an end-of-year bonus of 8.33%, holiday allowance of 8%, good pension, discount for health insurance at Ohra, allowance for relocation to the Netherlands, possibility to work parttime up to at least 32 hours a week, generous leave regulations, 338 hours of holiday leave for a fulltime appointment, parental leave, both paid and unpaid.

The institute conducts interdisciplinary and longitudinal research at the intersection of theory, practice and policy. A new group of researchers focuses on policing research, aimed at strengthening evidence-based policing.
