A 2.5 year post-doc position is available in our laboratory to study the role of lysosomes in cancer. Lysosomes, the main degradative organelle of the cell, are central in regulating the delicate balance between anabolism and catabolism. Lysosomal transformation is a long-known trait of cancer cells, but how this translates into cancer progression is not established. Within this project, we will investigate the molecules and pathways that regulate the lysosomal transformation in cancer cells using advanced microscopy, biochemistry and mass spectroscopy. The project will be part of the new research line dedicated to high-resolution understanding of organelle functions in cancer biology, led by Dr. Nalan Liv.
You have a PhD in the life sciences (cell biology, molecular biology, cancer biology, or a related field). You have a strong background in either organelle biology, cancer biology, biochemistry and a keen interest in fluorescence and electron microscopy. Furthermore you can work independently, interpret, present and discuss experimental data. You have excellent communications skills.
You are a highly-motivated ambitious scientist with strong quantitative research, organization and communication skills. A strong track record of research accomplishments in organelle biology, molecular biology and/or cancer biology is requested. The right applicant is able to work both independently and within a team, at national and international levels. You have an excellent command of the English language, both oral and written.
The maximum salary for this position (36 hours) is € 4.615,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.
In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).
Utrecht is a beautiful city located in the center of the Netherlands, close to Amsterdam and its international airport. You will be based in the Cell Biology section of the Center for Molecular Medicine, a dynamic institute with international and interactive research groups with direct access to a large number of facilities. Local training opportunities include molecular cell biology, biochemistry, live-cell imaging, electron microscopy, and correlative light – electron microscopy. You will be appointed to the Klumperman lab, and the project is led by Dr. Nalan Liv.
