Job description

Do you enjoy working at the interface of mathematics, scientific computing, data science, and applications?  Interested in developing numerical methods that combine physics- and data-based approaches for complex problems? We have an opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team.

The Computational Science Group at the Eindhoven University of Technology is seeking excellent applicants for an open postdoctoral position in the context of the project 'DIMENSION,' an inter-disciplinary project funded by the European Research Council.  The group is within the Center for Analysis, Scientific Computing, and Applications (CASA), which is part of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Eindhoven University of Technology.

We are particularly seeking individuals who possess strong research interest and capability, and who are interested in joining a multi-disciplinary team developing advanced, data-driven, computational methods for dimension reduction.  The methods we develop seek to accelerate the simulation and solution of optimisation, control, uncertainty quantification, inverse, and data assimilation problems, especially involving systems governed by parametrized differential equations.   Although the broader project deals with multi-scale problems in solid mechanics, the developed methods will be widely applicable to a wide range of engineering applications.

In this particular project, the candidate will be expected to develop of dimension reduction methods for problems with stochastic parameters, as well as assist in education and supervision activities.

Requirements

The Computational Science group focuses on numerical methods for partial differential equations, model order and dimension reduction particularly for parametrized PDEs, optimization, control, inverse problems, data assimilation, and uncertainty quantification.  In this project, we would like to explore synergies and develop methods for problems with stochastic parameters.  We are thus looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a strong expertise and interest in at least one of these fields.

  • A competitive renumeration package with opportunities for personal and career growth in a supportive a dynamic environment.
  • The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension, depending on performance.
  • You will have free access to high-quality training programs on general skills, didactics and topics related to research and valorization.
  • A gross monthly salary and benefits in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities.
  • Additionally, an annual holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary, plus a year-end allowance of 8.3% of the annual salary.
  • A broad package of fringe benefits (including an excellent technical infrastructure, moving expenses, and savings schemes).
