Job description

As the Junior Application Specialist – Tissue Culture, you will be responsible for running, troubleshooting, and further developing manual tissue culture protocols with an aim of translating them to ReGEN Biomedical’s automated pilot line for producing micro- and macro-tissues. This includes maintaining relevant cells in culture, logging all activity, and reporting on the progress and technical challenges.

In this role, your tasks will include:

  • cryopreserving cells and bringing cryopreserved cells into culture
  • taking care of 2D and 3D cell cultures (media changes, passages) 
  • running test protocols with the cells in culture
  • understanding the functioning of the automated tissue culture line and adapting manual tissue culture protocols for automation readiness
  • inventory management and purchasing of cells, reagents, and consumables 
  • ensuring proper documentation of all experiments
  • maintaining strong communication with other technical team members 
  • keeping management up to date with experimental progress and technical challenges or opportunities

Requirements

We are looking for an independent and collaborative tissue culture expert with the following skills and experiences: 

  • Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering or another Life Sciences area, preferably with over 2 years of tissue culture experience. A relevant degree is not a necessity for a candidate with suitable experience and aptitude
  • Experience with cultured human primary and stem cells is preferred. Experience with hMSCs, human iPSCs, human ESCs and 3D cell culture techniques will be beneficial.
  • Experience with immunostaining and imaging of cells is a plus
  • Experience with image and other biological data analysis is a plus
  • Experience with maintaining a lab notebook is beneficial 
  • Structured approach, attention to detail 
  • Organizational skills, hands-on mentality 
  • Result-oriented, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good reporting skills
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary team members
  • Good communication skills – experience of sharing results, issues, and progress preferred. Working language is English. Knowledge of Dutch is useful but not necessary.
  • Available for 38 hours (1 FTE) per week on site in Maastricht.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year, with a view to permanent employment.
