Our team is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms that drive CD4 T cell differentiation, with a key focus on how RNA translation controls proliferation and fate decisions of T cells. During an immune response, CD4 T cells get activated and differentiate in CD4 T cell helper subsets with specialized functions. This differentiation process lies at the basis of any immune response against infection or vaccination, and any derailed immune responses in cancer and autoimmune diseases. The goal of our research is to identify key molecular networks that govern this fate decision and their link to targetable cell-surface receptors.
In summary, you will use spectral flow cytometry to characterize CD4 T cell differentiation in in vivo mouse models and human lymphoid organoids, and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and other molecular approaches to investigate the role of regulation of RNA translation herein. Altogether, you will contribute to advance our fundamental understanding of CD4 T cell differentiation, which is key to rationally improve future design of immunotherapy across various diseases.
